Varicose veins

Varicose veins are dilated superficial veins of lower extremities which cause aching pain and discomfort. About 10 to 20 percent of the population in India suffers from this condition which is most common in females.

Individuals suffering from Varicose veins may undergo discomfort in the lower limb, skin changes and significant medical and emotional disability. Prolonged sitting or standing can worsen the condition due to added pressure on veins.

Stages of Varicose veins or Chronic venous insufficiency(CVI)

Stage 1: Spider veins - small reddish-purple veins.

Stage 2: Enlarged ropy varicose veins. Swollen veins may itch, burn, or feel numb along the veins.

Stage 3: Edema without skin changes.

Stage 4: Skin changes and discolouration. As the disease progresses, venous congestion and poor circulation can lead to changes in skin colour and texture.

Stage 5: Skin changes with healed ulceration.

Stage 6: Skin changes with active ulceration. In this final stage, injuries to the skin and leg ulcers refuse to heal even with treatment and can leave your legs covered with blood and open sores.

Causes of Varicose

Standing for long: Standing for long hours will put pressure on the blood vessels and weaken the vessel valves. This prevents the backflow of the blood towards the heart and causes the blood to stagnate in affected veins.

Age: With age, the valves of veins become less elastic and result in wear and tear of valves of veins, preventing the counter flux of blood to the heart.

Pregnancy: During pregnancy, the hormonal changes will lead to dilation of the blood vessels. And the uterus puts more pressure on the inferior vena cava contributing to varicosity.

Genetics: Varicose veins might run in families. Recent studies have shown that individuals having a family history of varicose veins have increased chances of developing the disease.

Overweight: Weight adds to increased pressure on the valves of the veins.

Symptoms

  1. Burning, throbbing and muscle cramping in the lower leg.

  2. Worsened pain after sitting or standing for a long time.

  3. Muscles in your legs may feel tired, heavy or sluggish, especially after physical activity.

  4. Individuals feel itching on the leg. It is because of inflammation.

  5. Changes in skin colour around the affected limb.

HOW CAN WE HELP YOU?

At Bodhsara we have multiple natural remedies to fix most of the varicose veins issue naturally and effectively.

ACUPUNCTURE

This needling therapy is also an alternative therapy performed by manipulating particular points on the body. The acupunctural practice holds that improper blood flow — also called 'blood stasis' can be the root cause of venous obstruction.

Clinical studies have shown acupuncture not only stimulates pain relief in the body but also provokes peripheral vasodilation (widening of the veins) which results in reduced blood pressure and ideal blood flow that reverses varicosity.

DRY CUPPING

Cupping is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapy used to treat multiple ailments by creating suction on particular areas of the skin. Recent research in cupping therapy has proven its effectiveness in promoting skin's blood flow leading to the removal of stagnated blood from one area. That improves local anaerobic metabolism, reduces inflammation and improves the cellular immune metabolism.
