Non-Dairy Replacements For Milk

All of us received the same advice as kids to increase our milk intake in order to strengthen our bodies, get taller, stay healthy, and many more.

Undoubtedly, a child needs milk to maintain good bone health, immunity, sound sleep, and many other things. But does a grownup actually require it?
Lactase is the enzyme that breaks down lactose into sugars our body can use. Due to the lack of this enzyme, the human body can't really digest milk once you reach adulthood.

Children produce lactase since they have a functional lactase gene. However, most of them eventually lose that ability over time, though there are exceptions too.

Complications:

Lactose Intolerance -

The first signs and symptoms of lactose intolerance typically appear 30 minutes to two hours after consuming or drinking lactose-containing meals or beverages. Typical indications and symptoms include:

  • Nausea, and sometimes, vomiting

  • Diarrhoea

  • Stomach cramps

  • Bloating

  • Gas

Adult replacement for dairy milk:

Soy milk: Made from soybeans or soy protein isolate, soy milk frequently includes thickeners and vegetable oils to enhance flavour and consistency.

Almond milk: Almond butter or whole almonds combined with water are used to make almond milk.

Coconut Milk: Water and the white meat of brown coconuts are used to make coconut milk.

Rice Milk: Water and milled white or brown rice are used to make rice milk. Similar to other non-dairy milk, it frequently has thickeners to enhance flavour and texture.

Make sure to choose non-dairy milk that has been fortified with calcium and vitamin B12 when making your decision. Finding the alternative that's best for you may take some time because of the wide variations in taste, nutrition, and price of various substitutes.
